Medicare Supplement Comparison

There are 10 standardized Medigap plans to choose from.  Plans are identified by the letters A through N they are plans A,B,C,D,F,G,K,L,M, & N these plans are sold by private insurance companies such as Aetna, Mutual of Omaha, United healthcare AARP and CIGNA. Plans that start with the same letter offer the same benefits regardless of the insurance company that sells it. The only difference between a Medigap policy with the same letter sold by the same insurance company is cost. In other words, a plan F from one company has the exact same benefits and coverage as a plan F from any other company the only difference between the two is the cost.

  • Plan F: In general, Plan F covers 100% of covered Medicare services. However, Plan F is also offered as a high-deductible plan by some insurance companies in some states. If you choose this option, this means you must pay for Medicare-covered costs (coinsurance, copayments, deductibles) up to the deductible amount of $2,300 in 2019 before your policy pays anything.
  • Plan G: You must meet the yearly Part B deductible ($185 in 2019). Plan G then pays 100% of covered services for the rest of the calendar year.
  • Plan N: You must meet the yearly Part B deductible ($185 in 2019), a copayment of up to $20 for some office visits, and up to $50 for emergency room visits. Plan N then pays 100% of covered services for the rest of the calendar year.
